Anger Management

I will be conducting a structured, 10-week anger management group for men beginning this spring. It will involve a deeper understanding of the nature of anger, an inventory of personal triggers, and real-life skills for coping and managing anger episodes. This personalized program is based on my experiences conducting anger management process groups in the state prison system as well as drawing from a client centered approach to personal change. Memory Training

Research reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association (2006, Willis, Tennstedt, & Mariske) involving nearly three thousand older adults found that memory and cognitive functioning significantly improved with only 10 sessions of memory and cognitive training with measurable benefits even five years after the training.

Memory training offered in this program is a system of skills, techniques, and strategies individually tailored to enhance memory and stimulate intellectual functioning.  Working with a memory trainer can help identify the goals and specific memory training methods that are most effective for each individual.  A memory trainer also provides motivation, trouble-shooting, and guidance much in the same way that a personal trainer guides, personalizes, and facilitates an exercise program at a gym.

Memory training begins with a clinical interview and a brief assessment to identify personal goals, strengths, and areas for improvement, resulting in a collaborative treatment plan. The memory training sessions are designed to be goal directed and relevant to daily life. Each session is 30 minutes in length and practice materials are provided. Depending on the assessment and individual need, 6 session or 10 session plans are recommended.
